Multilingualism Vs Monolingualism

Multiple research findings indicate that using two or more languages is beneficial for all ages. Children not only use most of their brain when they are learning another language, but they are also quick in grasping new content. They utilize the compartmentalized brain function that allows learning multiple languages without getting mixed up.

Research also supports the fact that it helps to avoid cognitive decline in older adults as they constantly transition from using one language to another. Learning a language at any age is possible contrary to the belief that it might cause confusion.

Some findings indicate that bilingualism might impact the rate of acquisition of a new language but research has also proved that proficiency in one language can have positive linguistic, academic, and  cognitive outcomes if the strategies used are systematic, in a socially and emotionally adequate environment.
